About the Authors
Argus Institute Staff
The clinical staff of Colorado State University's Argus Institute offer emotional support, as well as in-home pet hospice care, for families facing the death of their pets. The mission of the Argus Institute is to strengthen veterinarian-client-patient communication and support relationships between people and their companion animals.
Kathleen Cooney, D.V.M., M.S.
Dr. Cooney is founder and owner of Home to Heaven, P.C., a mobile veterinary hospice and euthanasia service based in northern Colorado. Kathy is also a Board member of the International Association of Animal Hospice and Palliative Care (IAAHPC).
Katharine Dobbs, RVT, CVPM, PHR
Katharine is a registered veterinary technician and practice management/human resources consultant. She specializes in compassion fatigue as it applies to the veterinary medical profession. Katharine teaches and speaks regularly at conferences and online at VSPN.
Dana Durrance, M.A.
Dana is a mental health professional and consultant to the veterinary medical profession. Dana's professional experiences include counseling pet parents and teaching veterinary students at Colorado State University's Argus Institute, as well as writing articles, ebooks and books with Laurel Lagoni for AAHA and World by the Tail, Inc. Dana is married to a veterinarian and lives in Colorado Springs, CO.
Laurel Lagoni, M.S., CEO/CCO
Laurel is co-owner and CEO/CCO of World by the Tail, Inc. She is one of the pioneers of veterinary grief counseling and education and the co-founder and former Director of the Argus Institute at Colorado State University. As well as writing books for AAHA, Laurel is the co-author of the groundbreaking textbook (1994) The Human-Animal Bond and Grief.
Debby Morehead, CFO/COO
Debby is co-founder and CFO of World by the Tail, Inc. She has over 25 years of experience working in veterinary medicine as the Associate Director of Development for the Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences and as the publications manager for The American Animal Hospital Association. Her husband Dave is a veterinarian.
